尝试用books来直接作主语,即Books are supposed to be tasted,swallowed,chewed and digested.这样后面的to be 就可以省略了呀.

前面句子的已经把语法阐明，就是are to be。当后面的句子有相同的句子结构时，也就是像这句子里的都是are to be，那么are这个助动词就可以省略掉，因为前面的句子已经表明是are，be这个动词不可以省略，而to就理所当然的也不能省略。
我觉得是不可以省略的。
一个句子中是不能少于主语和谓语的。如果没有主语，只能算是一个短语，不能算是一个完整的句子。
不可以省略，这里的to be done是一个整体，不定式作表语。并不是说只要是重复的部分就能省略的。
