Simon Peyton Jones (born in South Africa on January 18,1958) is a British computer scientist who researches the implementation and applications of functional programming languages,particularly lazy functional languages.He is an honorary Professor of Computer Science at the University of Glasgow and supervises PhD Students at the University of Cambridge.
Peyton Jones graduated from Trinity College,Cambridge in 1980,and worked in industry for two years before serving as a lecturer at University College London and as a professor at the University of Glasgow,where he subsequently served as Head of the Department of Computer Science.Since 1998 he has worked as a researcher at Microsoft Research in Cambridge,England.He is married to Dorothy,a priest in the Church of England,and they have three children.
He is a major contributor to the design of the Haskell programming language,and a principal designer of the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC).He is also co-creator of the C-- programming language,designed for intermediate program representation between the language-specific front-end of a compiler and a general-purpose back-end code generator and optimiser.C-- is used in GHC[1].
He was also a major contributor to the 1999 book Cybernauts Awake which explored the ethical and spiritual implications of the Internet.
In 2004 he was inducted as a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.

Dorothy Eleanor (King) Priest, 94, of Augusta, MI; Sherman Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 12, 2009.
She was born October 23, 1915 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of Jesse King and Sarah (Cooper) King. Dorothy went to work after high school for the Kellogg Company. She then began Business College and eventually became the private secretary of Mr. Freeman who was President of Kellogg Sales Company. She had worked for the Kellogg Company for 14 years until she took maternity leave. After she raised her children; she went to work at the Federal Center where she was a private secretary; for fourteen years retiring in 1976. She married Louis Alva Priest on November 29, 1947 in Battle Creek, MI.; however her husband preceded her in death on December 16, 1996. Dorothy is survived by: her son: Bob and Chris Priest of Battle Creek, MI; a daughter: Sandy R. Reed of Battle Creek, MI; five grandchildren: Candy S. Kibler, Chris and RaNae Reed, Rob Priest, Jr.; Eric Priest; and Lindsey Reed-Lipscomb; four great grandchildren; her brother: Robert and JoAnn King of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter: Kim Reed (1992); her grandson: Timothy Priest at birth (1979); and her brother: David King (2008) Dorothy graduated in 1934 from Battle Creek Central and attended two years of Business College in Battle Creek. She has been a lifelong member of the Congregational Church in Battle Creek and a founding member of Gull Lake United Methodist Church of Richland. She attended Gull Lake United Methodist Church where she worked on the finance committee and worked on the church newsletter. She has been a lifelong member of the Eastern Star Chapter # 153 of Battle Creek. For many years she served as secretary of the Sherman Lake Association Board and helped bring about many improvements. She enjoyed working on word search fill in puzzles and knitting. She enjoyed watching "beautiful Sherman Lake" since 1956. She enjoyed bowling and bingo when she was younger. With her wonderful sense of humor and her smiling face she will be remembered for years by many, including her loving family. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on (November 20, 2009) Friday after 9:30 AM until service time. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. N. David Mellist of the Gull Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to American Heart Association or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society-Michigan Chapter. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes. (269)
